{"id":683,"date":"2008-06-02T07:45:04","date_gmt":"2008-06-02T11:45:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=683"},"modified":"2008-06-02T09:26:38","modified_gmt":"2008-06-02T13:26:38","slug":"ive-got-a-fever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=683","title":{"rendered":"I&#8217;ve got a fever"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Speaking of facts&#8211;I mean whether they matter on the op-ed page&#8211;pointing out that someone else has distorted or minimized or ignored inconvenient facts seems to me to be one of the hallmarks of an op-ed since it&#39;s one of the key moves in any critical argument.&nbsp; Perhaps for that reason alone op-ed editors ought to be ever more vigilant for claims such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2008\/05\/30\/AR2008053002521.html\">the following<\/a> from George Will:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p> Regarding McCain&#39;s &quot;central facts,&quot; the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/related\/topic\/United+Nations?tid=informline\">U.N.<\/a>&#39;s World Meteorological Organization, which helped establish the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/related\/topic\/Intergovernmental+Panel+on+Climate+Change?tid=informline\">Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change<\/a> &#8212; co-winner, with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/related\/topic\/Al+Gore?tid=informline\">Al Gore<\/a>, of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/ac2\/related\/topic\/Nobel+Peace+Prize?tid=informline\">Nobel Peace Prize<\/a> &#8212; says <strong>global temperatures have not risen in a decade<\/strong>. So Congress might be arriving late at the save-the-planet party. Better late than never?
