{"id":5166,"date":"2017-03-21T14:37:36","date_gmt":"2017-03-21T19:37:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=5166"},"modified":"2017-03-21T14:37:36","modified_gmt":"2017-03-21T19:37:36","slug":"literally-analogous","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=5166","title":{"rendered":"Literally Analogous"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?attachment_id=5167\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-5167\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-5167 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/wp-content\/plugins\/2017\/03\/dingus-republican.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"267\" height=\"189\" \/><\/a>Analogies, like metaphors, require that things not be identical.\u00c2\u00a0 But have some relevant similarities.\u00c2\u00a0 And so, if you&#8217;re arguing that because X is like Y, we should treat X-cases like Y-case&#8230; you&#8217;re also committing to the thought that Xs are not Ys.\u00c2\u00a0 Just, well, <em>like<\/em> Ys.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s it.\u00c2\u00a0 But if you said, &#8220;Cases of X <em>literally are <\/em>cases of Y,&#8221; that&#8217;s a different claim.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/columnists\/dennisprager\/2017\/03\/21\/the-most-dangerous-addiction-of-them-all-entitlements-n2301802\">Dennis Prager at Townhall<\/a> argues that entitlements are like drugs and alchohol, because they create addictions to them.\u00c2\u00a0 Especially when they are given for free and in large quantities.\u00c2\u00a0 And then as a consequence, they create dependent and entitled populations.\u00c2\u00a0 And he then concludes:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px\"><strong>In this sense, the left in every country<\/strong> &#8212; in America, the Democratic Party &#8212; <strong>should literally be regarded as a drug dealer<\/strong>.
