Nothing will ever make me believe that biologically pure races can be shown to exist today.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=tkHqP3vgYi4C&amp;printsec=frontcover#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\">That was Benito Mussolini in 1932<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0I suppose that the idea that some races are superior to others has never gone away. \u00c2\u00a0Just today, for instance, the New York Times seems to have hired a science columnist who thinks such a proposition worth pursuing. \u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/tktk.gawker.com\/new-times-op-ed-writer-has-a-colorful-past-with-racist-1692187849\/+trotter\">Here&#8217;s Gawker&#8217;s take<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Khan\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s writing elsewhere hardly rejects the doctrines on which these outlets are based. <strong>He merely treats what white racists taken for granted\u00e2\u20ac\u201dthat non-whites, and especially blacks, are intellectually inferior\u00e2\u20ac\u201d<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/gnxp\/2012\/09\/who-believes-in-i-q\/\" target=\"_blank\">as an open question worth exploring<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.discovermagazine.com\/gnxp\/2013\/05\/why-race-as-a-biological-construct-matters\/\" target=\"_blank\">in the name of scientific inquiry.<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>Still, Khan is careful with his actual words; he never <em>says<\/em> black people are less intelligent. But his willingness to treat black intelligence as a matter of debate has not hampered his career in the slightest. He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s written for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slate.com\/authors.razib_khan.html\" target=\"_blank\">Slate<\/a>, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.telegraph.co.uk\/news\/author\/razibkhan\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Daily Telegraph<\/a><\/em>, and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/profile\/newamul-khan\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian<\/a><\/em>. Indeed, he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s already placed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/01\/03\/opinion\/the-abortion-stereotype.html\" target=\"_blank\">two<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/11\/25\/opinion\/our-cats-ourselves.html\" target=\"_blank\">op-eds<\/a>, about the evolution of cats and abortion politics, in <em>The New York Times.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The accusation here is that Khan iron mans racist science: it&#8217;s worth looking into whether these (historically inferior) &#8220;races&#8221; are inferior because inquiry, or science.<\/p>\n<p>I guess I thought we were beyond this (in part for the reasons Mussolini mentions), but then again, I&#8217;ve had more than one student who basically affirms old-fashioned racial theory.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Race?
