{"id":4699,"date":"2014-04-16T18:11:24","date_gmt":"2014-04-16T23:11:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=4699"},"modified":"2014-04-16T19:11:58","modified_gmt":"2014-04-17T00:11:58","slug":"slamming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=4699","title":{"rendered":"Slamming"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 271px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/5\/57\/Kennedy-bodyslams-Holly,-RLA-Melb-10.11.2007.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" height=\"432\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Fig. 1: a slam<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an unproductive exchange between Paul Krugman and Joe Scarborough on the subject of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/04\/16\/us\/politics\/census-survey-revisions-mask-health-law-effects.html?_r=2&amp;assetType=nyt_now\">changes by the Census Bureau in the way it evaluates health care information<\/a>. \u00c2\u00a0First, here&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/livewire\/scarborough-census-cook-books-obamacare\">Scarborough on the changes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Listen, the White Houses on both sides do their best to cook the books,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This is a particularly clumsy effort.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Krugman then <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/livewire\/paul-krugman-joe-scarborough-census-obamacare\">observes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<strong>You can argue that the Census decision to change its health-insurance questionnaire starting with the 2013 data wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t such a good idea \u00e2\u20ac\u201d in fact, I know a number of health care experts who are dismayed,<\/strong>&#8221; wrote Krugman, a liberal columnist and Nobel Prize-winning economist. &#8220;But it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s really quite vile to have\u00c2\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/livewire\/scarborough-census-cook-books-obamacare\">talk-show hosts<\/a>\u00c2\u00a0who quite literally know nothing about the field, other than that they\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re against covering the uninsured, <strong>casually accusing Census of \u00e2\u20ac\u0153cooking the books\u00e2\u20ac\u009d to support Obamacare.&#8221;<\/strong> (Link in the original.)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Note the concession, in bold. \u00c2\u00a0Now <a href=\"http:\/\/talkingpointsmemo.com\/livewire\/scarborough-krugman-attack-comes-from-feelings-of-inadequacy\">Joe Scarborough<\/a> responds:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Paul&#8217;s shrill attack is off target and wrong, as usual. I just hope the good professor can work through the humiliation of his debate performance against me and will soon stop being driven to post silly attacks because of his feelings of inadequacy.
