{"id":4525,"date":"2013-10-29T08:09:34","date_gmt":"2013-10-29T13:09:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=4525"},"modified":"2013-10-29T08:09:34","modified_gmt":"2013-10-29T13:09:34","slug":"not-the-onion-part-342","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=4525","title":{"rendered":"Not the Onion, part 342"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 525px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" \" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/o.onionstatic.com\/images\/7\/7540\/16x9\/750.jpg?3690\" width=\"525\" height=\"295\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thighmaster General<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>While <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whyweargue.com\/2013\/10\/why-why-we-argue.html\">Scott and Rob<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Why-Argue-And-How-Should\/dp\/0415859050\">argue their minds to the bone<\/a> on the place of rationality in political discourse, the <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/experts\/2013\/10\/28\/suzanne-somers-the-affordable-care-act-is-a-socialist-ponzi-scheme\/\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> publishes an error-filled op-ed (in a section called &#8220;The Experts&#8221;) by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0001755\/\">Suzanne Somers<\/a>, of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0075596\/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_20\">Three&#8217;s Company<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thighmaster\">Thighmaster<\/a> fame. \u00c2\u00a0Here&#8217;s how it begins:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>First of all, let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s call affordable health care what it really is:\u00c2\u00a0<strong>It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s socialized medicine<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve had an opportunity to watch <strong>the Canadian version of affordable health care<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0in action with all its limitations with\u00c2\u00a0my Canadian husband\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s family.\u00c2\u00a0A few years ago, I was startled to see\u00c2\u00a0the cover of\u00c2\u00a0<em>Maclean\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s<\/em>, a national Canadian magazine, showing\u00c2\u00a0a picture of a dog on an examining table with the headline, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Your Dog Can Get Better Health Care Than You.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d It went on to say that young Canadian medical\u00c2\u00a0students have no incentive to become doctors to humans because they can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t make any money. Instead, there is a great surge of Canadian students becoming veterinarians. That\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s where the money is.
