Oh, that&#8217;s weird.\u00c2\u00a0 I wonder what Inhofe has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2013\/05\/21\/oklahoma_senator_tornado_aid_totally_different_from_sandy_aid\/\">to say<\/a> about that:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>That was totally different. . . . They were getting things, for instance, that was supposed to be in New Jersey. . . . They had things in the Virgin Islands. They were fixing roads there, they were putting roofs on houses in Washington, D.C. Everybody was getting in and exploiting the tragedy that took place. That won\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t happen in Oklahoma.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>First, off, he&#8217;s opposed to funding help for those battered by a storm because he&#8217;s worried about grift?\u00c2\u00a0 Sheesh.\u00c2\u00a0 Second, if it <em>does<\/em> happen in OK, is he on the hook then?\u00c2\u00a0 Oh, and Inhofe and Coburn have a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2013\/05\/20\/oklahoma-senators-disaster-relief_n_3309234.html?utm_hp_ref=tw\">long history<\/a> of opposing funding FEMA (despite the fact that OK has among the most disasters).<\/p>\n<p>Senator Coburn wants the help, too.\u00c2\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/2013\/05\/21\/oklahoma_senator_wants_to_offset_tornado_aid_with_other_cuts\/\">He proposes to pay for it<\/a> by cutting other federal programs.<\/p>\n<p>Again, we have a case where we must ask whether we have a case of acceptable <em>tu quoque<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 We&#8217;ve regularly here at the NS argued that cases of<em> tu quoque<\/em> that show double standards are appropriate and relevant.\u00c2\u00a0 Similar cases should be judged similarly, and it zip code is not a relevant reason to change one&#8217;s view on whether funding is deserved.\u00c2\u00a0 So reveling in the hypocrisy charge here isn&#8217;t for the sake of feeling hate toward someone or to score points on a vice, but to show that someone&#8217;s not been an honest arbiter with reasons.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s what&#8217;s happening here.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s not <em>schadenfreude,<\/em> it&#8217;s not <em>ad hominem<\/em> abuse.\u00c2\u00a0 It&#8217;s evidence that someone doesn&#8217;t proceed fairly.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s what it shows, and when your constituency is suffering, you understand the role of government support.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s what the hypocrisy charges amount to.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just in: James Inhofe\u00c2\u00a0 (R- OK) is now plugging for federal disaster aid for the tornado damage in Oklahoma.\u00c2\u00a0 That&#8217;s fine.\u00c2\u00a0 Ah, but he and his colleague, Tom Coburn (R-OK) were famously against similar aid for the East Coast after Hurricane Sandy.
