My hypothesis is this: given any opponent O\u00c2\u00a0to your view p, your first reaction is to claim that O is inconsistent with regard to p.\u00c2\u00a0 So, take Obama, whose first initial happens to be O.\u00c2\u00a0 He’s against arming school teachers and janitors.\u00c2\u00a0 The National Rifle Association naturally finds this absurd, and, of course, hypocritical.\u00c2\u00a0 In a recent commerical, which you can see at this link<\/a>, they argue:<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Are the president\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s kids more important than yours?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the narrator of the group\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 35-second video asks. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school? Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, but he\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s
\njust another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Is the President a hypocrite because his family has armed security?<\/p>\n

Obviously not.\u00c2\u00a0 First, the President’s security is provided by the (hated) government; each of the gun-carrying individuals surrounding the President and his children (etc.) is of the very well-regulated\u00c2\u00a0militia type: trained and retrained, background tested, sworn to uphold the constitution, serve and protect, and so forth.\u00c2\u00a0 Second, the President (and members of\u00c2\u00a0Congress, etc.)\u00c2\u00a0exist in a gun-free zone, except for the police<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Unsurprisingly,\u00c2\u00a0I don’t have\u00c2\u00a0my 2nd amendment rights at the\u00c2\u00a0Capitol building, among the NRA’s biggest\u00c2\u00a0legislative boosters.\u00c2\u00a0 Does that not make them hypocrites?\u00c2\u00a0 Not really.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
