{"id":3347,"date":"2012-01-18T09:31:25","date_gmt":"2012-01-18T14:31:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=3347"},"modified":"2012-01-18T11:51:08","modified_gmt":"2012-01-18T16:51:08","slug":"cant-tell-if-troll-or-just-republican-senator-from-iowa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=3347","title":{"rendered":"Can&#8217;t tell if troll or just Republican Senator from Iowa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><iframe allowtransparency=\"\" frameborder=\"0\" id=\"twttrHubFrame\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"http:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets\/hub.1326407570.html\" style=\"position: absolute; width: 10px; height: 10px; top: -9999em\" tabindex=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Years ago it was a joke when I gave the fallacy assignment in which students had to make fallacious arguments for various preposterous conclusions.&nbsp; It&#39;s not really funny anymore, because there exist people like Chuck Grassley, Senator from Iowa.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/globegazette.com\/mcpress\/news\/local\/grassley-conducts-town-hall-meeting-in-osage\/article_b7e3d2bc-412e-11e1-9683-0019bb2963f4.html\">Here is Senator (they&#39;re going to kill grandma)<\/a> on childhood obesity (via <a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/health\/2012\/01\/17\/405438\/gop-senator-says-child-labor-needed-to-fight-obesity-how-can-kids-be-active-if-they-are-limited-by-the-law\/\">Thinkprogress<\/a>):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Concern was raised about the proposed Department of Labor&#39;s intent to greatly limit child labor on family farms.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;This farm bill will greatly affect our FFA and 4-H programs,&quot; said Grassley. &quot;Kids won&#39;t be able to help on farms not owned by their parents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&quot;It&#39;s interesting that this child labor bill goes against Michelle Obama&#39;s anti-obesity initiative,&quot; said Grassley. &quot;How can kids be active if they are limited by this law?&quot;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Edgar Dorow, retired extension director, raised the question regarding whether humans have had a direct impact on global warming.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I believe there are still many questions to be answered,&quot; said Sen. Grassley. &quot;<strong>There are a few scientists<\/strong> who are proponents of manmade global warming as opposed to natural global warming.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Until <strong>we get an international agreement to make changes<\/strong>, nothing is going to happen.&quot;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I suppose supporting food stamps also contradicts Michelle Obama&#39;s childhood health advocacy.&nbsp; The children cannot get fat if they are not eating.<\/p>\n<p>Update: Some context to the proposed child labor laws.&nbsp; These are the rules Grassley thinks would make kids fat:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Under current law, <a href=\"http:\/\/thehill.com\/business-a-lobbying\/196769-child-labor-rules-rile-lawmakers-from-farm-states\">400,000 children<\/a> working on farms are not protected from exploitation and dangerous labor.
