In New Hampshire Friday, Perry<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.wsj.com\/washwire\/2011\/11\/01\/satire-on-occupy-wall-street-trips-up-rick-perry\/?mod=wsj_share_twitter\" style=\"color: rgb(0,0,0); font-size: 15px; text-decoration: underline\">noted<\/a><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>an email forwarded by his son that quoted a 38-year-old Occupy Toronto protester named Jeremy who whined that bankers work so hard he can&#39;t wake up early enough to protest them. Perry paraphrased Jeremy&#39;s complaints: &quot;We got here at 9 o&#39;clock, and those people &#8230; those bankers that we came to insult, they&#39;d already been at work for two hours when we got here at 9 o&#39;clock, and when we get ready to leave, you know, they&rsquo;re still in there working. I guess greed just makes you work hard.&quot; Perry and everyone else laughed. But Jeremy isn&#39;t real; he was made up by the<em style=\"font-size: 15px\">Toronto Globe and Mail<\/em>&#39;s<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/news\/national\/toronto\/globe-to\/occupy-toronto-the-one-week-anniversary-party\/article2209898\/print\/\" style=\"color: rgb(0,0,0); font-size: 15px; text-decoration: underline\">Mark Schatzker<\/a>, whose column was clearly labeled &quot;satire.&quot;<\/p>\n<div style=\"widows: 2; text-transform: none; background-color: rgb(255,255,255); text-indent: 0px; letter-spacing: normal; font: 15px\/21px 'times new roman', times, serif; white-space: normal; orphans: 2; color: rgb(0,0,0); word-spacing: 0px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px\">Conservatives have been mistaking fake Jeremy for a real protester for a week. <strong>He just too perfectly fits their idea of an Occupy Wall Street protester not to be real.<\/strong> The power of Jeremy is most evident at&nbsp;<em style=\"font-size: 15px\">The American Specator<\/em>, where&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/spectator.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/24\/deep-thoughts-from-occupy-wall\" style=\"color: rgb(0,0,0); font-size: 15px; text-decoration: underline\">Shawn Macomber<\/a>&nbsp;quoted it sincerely under the headline &quot;Deep Thoughts from Occupy Wall Street Toronto&quot; on October 24 before updating that it was satire.&nbsp;But the fake quote was so good,<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><em style=\"font-size: 15px\">The Spectator<\/em>&#39;s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/spectator.org\/blog\/2011\/10\/27\/self-parody-alert-occupy-toron\" style=\"color: rgb(0,0,0); font-size: 15px; text-decoration: underline\">J.P. Freire<\/a>&nbsp;quoted it as real three days later: &quot;Self Parody Alert: Occupy Toronto Doesn&#39;t Get It.&quot; But alas, it is J.P. Freire who doesn&#39;t get it.&nbsp;He quickly updated, &quot;Is this a parody? Pretty funny ones, too.
