{"id":3117,"date":"2011-08-20T08:01:42","date_gmt":"2011-08-20T13:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=3117"},"modified":"2011-08-20T08:01:42","modified_gmt":"2011-08-20T13:01:42","slug":"definitional-hackery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=3117","title":{"rendered":"Definitional hackery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A hack is someone who can be relied on to make any argument&#8211;sound or not&#8211;for his preset view and against any perceived opposition.&nbsp; Somehow our&nbsp;media and political culture relies in large part on this&nbsp;sort of person&#39;s insights, however completely predictable and frequently unreasonable or irrational.&nbsp; Here is a fun case in point.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Obama was photographed on vacation riding a bicycle with one of his daughters.&nbsp;&nbsp;This provoked the following comment from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/274946\/obama-goes-pedal-jay-nordlinger\">Jay Nordlinger at the National Review Online<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>I&rsquo;m sorry<\/strong>, but a grown man wearing a bicycle helmet, <strong>when he&rsquo;s not training or racing like LeMond<\/strong>, is just &mdash; is just . . .
