{"id":2239,"date":"2010-09-20T06:44:52","date_gmt":"2010-09-20T11:44:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=2239"},"modified":"2010-09-20T06:44:52","modified_gmt":"2010-09-20T11:44:52","slug":"a-little-back-and-forth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=2239","title":{"rendered":"A little back and forth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Normally these op-ed arguments go one way: pundit makes them, you must sit in stunned silence at the lunacy or the genius.&nbsp; This week, however, we get a chance to see a little back-and-forth.&nbsp; Well just once&#8211;once back, once forth (not sure if that phrase is supposed to work this way).&nbsp; Anyway.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/09\/13\/AR2010091305307.html\">Here is Eugene Robinson on Newt Gingrich<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The latest example comes in an interview with the conservative Web site <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/corner\/246302\/gingrich-obama-s-kenyan-anti-colonial-worldview-robert-costa\" target=\"\"><font color=\"#0c4790\">National Review Online<\/font><\/a>. Unsurprisingly, he was criticizing President Obama. Bizarrely, according to the Web site, he said the following: &quot;What if [Obama] is so outside our comprehension, that only if you understand Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior, can you begin to piece together [his actions]?&quot; According to Newt, this is &quot;the most accurate, predictive model&quot; for the president&#39;s actions, or policies or something.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What in the world is &quot;Kenyan, anti-colonial behavior&quot; supposed to mean?<\/strong> That Obama is waging a secret campaign to free us from the yoke of British oppression?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So Robinson wonders what Newt&#39;s claim means.&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/09\/19\/AR2010091903993.html\">Here&#39;s Newt&#39;s Spokesperson&#39;s reponse today in the Post<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Speculation on the origins of the worldview of world leaders has been going on since there have been world leaders, and the influence of fathers is often the strongest influence.<\/strong> The reaction to Newt Gingrich&#39;s remarks has bordered on irrationality.
