{"id":1929,"date":"2010-06-27T09:19:32","date_gmt":"2010-06-27T14:19:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=1929"},"modified":"2010-06-27T09:19:32","modified_gmt":"2010-06-27T14:19:32","slug":"send-in-the-epistemologists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=1929","title":{"rendered":"Send in the epistemologists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2010\/06\/25\/AR2010062502158.html\">Chris Mooney<\/a> has a worthwhile op-ed about the public&#39;s perception of science.&nbsp; The problem, he argues, is not (only)&nbsp;ignorance of scientific stuff, but selective skepticism about particular scientific claims.&nbsp;&nbsp;Ironically, information only exacerbates the scientific pseudo-skeptic&#39;s&nbsp; ignorance.&nbsp; He writes:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In other words, it appears that politics comes first on such a contested subject, and better information is no cure-all &#8212; people are likely to simply strain it through an ideological sieve.
