From <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/200905200019\">County Fair<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Last week, I noted that the numerical advantage conservatives have on the nation&#39;s op-ed pages doesn&#39;t tell the whole story:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>There&#39;s a huge <em>qualitative<\/em> difference between the conservatives given newspaper columns and their progressive counterparts as well. The conservatives tend to be more partisan, more aggressive, and more reliable advocates for their &quot;team.&quot;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Post<\/em> employs as a columnist Bill Kristol, a hyperpartisan neocon Republican strategist who has been a key player in GOP efforts to block health care and start unnecessary wars. Who is supposed to be Kristol&#39;s counterpart? Richard Cohen, who <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fwp-dyn%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F2009%2F05%2F04%2FAR2009050402945.html\">opposes affirmative action,<\/a> supports <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fwp-dyn%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F2009%2F05%2F04%2FAR2009050402945.html\">torture<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/columns\/200709220002\">attacked liberals who opposed Kristol&#39;s war in Iraq<\/a>?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Now, here&#39;s what you see if you turn to the op-ed page of today&#39;s <em>Washington Post<\/em>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Former Bush speechwriter and current <em>Post <\/em>columnist <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fwp-dyn%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F2009%2F05%2F19%2FAR2009051902838.html\">Michael Gerson<\/a> on &quot;The Democrats&#39; Assault on the CIA.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Conservative <em>Post <\/em>columnist <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fwp-dyn%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F2009%2F05%2F19%2FAR2009051902839.html\">Kathleen Parker<\/a> on chaos in the GOP.<\/p>\n<p>Former Bush aide <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/blog\/200905200015\">Ed Gillespie<\/a>, misleading readers about his party&#39;s historical reaction to Supreme Court nominees by Democratic presidents.<\/p>\n<p>Centrist <em>Post <\/em>columnist <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fwp-dyn%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F2009%2F05%2F19%2FAR2009051902669.html\">David Ignatius<\/a> on President Obama&#39;s approach to Israel<\/p>\n<p>Liberal <em>Post <\/em>columnist <a href=\"http:\/\/mediamatters.org\/rd?to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fwp-dyn%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F2009%2F05%2F19%2FAR2009051902223.html\">Ruth Marcus<\/a> writing about her new puppy.  <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>So that&#39;s three conservatives, including two former Bush aides, a centrist, and a progressive.  One conservative attacking Democrats, one conservative misleading readers about the Supreme Court and attacking Democrats, one conservative noting disarray in the GOP, and a liberal writing about her dog.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I invite those who hunger for balance on this page to produce the party-line liberal columnists in national newspapers. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I pick on &quot;conservative&quot; columnists a lot here.&nbsp; I&#39;ve noted elsewhere (click here) why this is so.&nbsp; Now I am not the only one making this observation.
