{"id":1203,"date":"2009-02-07T08:47:04","date_gmt":"2009-02-07T14:47:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=1203"},"modified":"2009-02-07T08:47:04","modified_gmt":"2009-02-07T14:47:04","slug":"stimulus-package","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thenonsequitur.com\/?p=1203","title":{"rendered":"Stimulus package"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It struck me the other day in class that the title of this post might be a double entendre.&nbsp; In any case, here are two funny observations on the definition of stimulus.&nbsp; First, our great and infallible leader, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonmonthly.com\/archives\/individual\/2009_02\/016775.php\">Barack Obama<\/a> (it&#39;s time that word press updated their spell check, His name still gets marked wrong):<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&quot;[Y]ou get the argument, &#39;Well, this is not a stimulus bill, this is a spending bill.&#39; <em>What do you think a stimulus is<\/em>? That&#39;s <em>the whole point<\/em>. No, seriously. That&#39;s the point.&quot; <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And Economist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.prospect.org\/csnc\/blogs\/beat_the_press_archive?month=02&amp;year=2009&amp;base_name=npr_talks_to_senators_who_comp\">Dean Baker<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&quot;Spending that is not  stimulus is like cash that is not money. Spending is stimulus, spending is  stimulus. Any spending will generate jobs.
