The Fighting Irish

I caught the following discussion between two Irish Catholics–Pat Buchanan and Lawrence O'Donnell–about whether Notre Dame should grant an honorary degree to Barack Hussein O'Bama, 44th President of the United States of America.  Buchanan says no, on account of O'Bama's position on the only two issues right wing Catholics seem to care enough about to make any kind of political stand: abortion and stem cell research.  Ok, I'm probably wrong about that.  I think they also care about gay marriage.  You can watch the exchange at this link (I cannot figure out how to embed video–anyone?).

  1. I have aggressively resisted any return to “The Dark Side” (being a computer tech, in my case) so I’m a good 10 years out of date on such things. But I believe the first two steps in embedding the video are:

    1) Track the video back to its original source, in this case on MSNBC.COM. The link is:
    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/30144080#30144080

    2) Many such original sources have an “embed” button associated with them (this is the case with the MSNBC video). Pushing the button will start the embed process, but from there on you’d have to have administrator rights to your website (which I assume you have) and thus the ability to embed the code, which comes out as the following:
    <div><iframe height=”339″ width=”425″ src=”http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22425001/vp/30144080#30144080” frameborder=”0″ scrolling=”no”></iframe><p style=”font-size:11px; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color: #999; margin-top: 5px; background: transparent; text-align: center; width: 425px;”>Visit msnbc.com for <a style=”text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;” href=”http://www.msnbc.msn.com“>Breaking News</a>, <a href=”http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032507” style=”text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;”>World News</a>, and <a href=”http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3032072” style=”text-decoration:none !important; border-bottom: 1px dotted #999 !important; font-weight:normal !important; height: 13px; color:#5799DB !important;”>News about the Economy</a></p></div>

(You probably already know all of this, so I am just displaying my own ignorance. But I ought to be used to that by now…)

(In the other hand, if the above actually embeds the video in my message, I’m going to pretend I knew that would happen!)

  2. Hi Gary,

Thanks for the advice, but that doesn’t work.  Nothing seems to work.  There’s even a function in our interface for it but nothing happens.

  3. Seriously, don’t embed videos.

You’ll find that after a time, the video distribution company will start putting ads on the initial image which will end up on your blog….

In this century, people know how to press a link…
