    “It’s worth remembering how the GOP and the Right treated Bush and the role they played in his presidency.  Ambinder says that it wasn’t until the Miers nomination that the Right criticized Bush in any meaningful way.  That’s pretty extraordinary, since that took place in September, 2005 — almost five full years into the Bush presidency. “
    I think he is right about that. However, I think he missed completely the cause of it all. In my opinion had more to do with 9/11 than anything else. For the majority of the first term, Bush was not challenged not even by the Left.
    Anyway, to his main point, he’s completely right: constructive criticism should be encouraged:
    “It is better to heed a wise man’s rebuke than to listen to the song of fools.”
